Celebrating the Fourth

This 4th of July, we celebrated on the 3rd with fireworks and music at Clement Park with friends.

Around 9:30, as soon as the band finished their last song, the skies opened up and poured on us as the fireworks went off. We tried sheltering under a blanket, but gave up and embraced the rain! The kids were jumping up and down, dripping wet, looking up at the fireworks and shouting, "This is the best!" What a fun memory that we will never forget!

We hosted a fourth of July brunch for our neighbors the next morning on the 4th and it was a really chill, low key, relaxing time. Pancakes and fresh fruit first thing in the morning- nothing beats it!

That night we tried Little Man Ice Cream in the Highlands- it was fresh, original and amazing!

The Fourth

I have not blogged in forever. Busy summer days slip right by and by the time the sun goes down, I am too exhausted to blog. I have been spending SO little time on the computer which makes me happy. We swim all the time. We play with friends. We go to the library. We read a TON. Summer is good.
To recap- here is our 4th of July celebration. The Mondragons hold an annual bash and we attended. Unfortunately, this year we did not see fireworks. Because of the MANY horrible fires in Colorado, they banned fires and fireworks. Bummer but totally understandable.

Yep, I caught Elijah's first kiss with another girl on my camera! They thought it was hilarious!
We had a talk that night about waiting to kiss other girls till your MUCH older:)lol

Fun day! And special thanks to the Mondragons for opening up their backyard to SO many people and SO, SO, SO many kiddos:) I love the spirit of hospitality that family has and its a blessing to serve with them at Sola!

Happy July 4th

My favorite holiday has always been a tie between July 4th and Thanksgiving. I LOVE 4th of July! Its something about the fireworks, red white and blue, flags, feeling of pride being an American, the yummy desserts, BBQ's , sparklers, parades, the excitement in little kids eyes. Living in New England, added to the charm and tradition of the holiday. We would sit on the corner of Main Street and watch the parade go by. We would go to the Ashby Bonfire and watch a HUGE tower of pallets be lit while listening to patriotic band music. We would swim and BBQ with friends and eat delicious, beautifully decorated desserts. I just LOVE it! Elijah was supposed to be born on July 4th- he was 5 days early.
This year, I missed it. We moved on Thursday the 3rd and the 4th was spent unpacking. Marks parents were so kind to invite us over for dinner and then we went home and were too tired for fireworks. Oh well, next year we will do it up right- fireworks and all...
